QR Codes (Quick Response Codes) are two-dimensional bar codes that contain alphanumeric text and often direct users to URLs where they can learn more information about a product, service, object or place. QR Codes were created by a Japanese company in 1994 to help track inventory levels and have since transformed into a new and creative tactic utilized by marketers around the globe. The codes represent considerably more data than one-dimensional barcodes and are decoded using software commonly found on camera phones. This practice is referred to as “mobile tagging” (watch video above).
